As a RQ, SP, FM, PM, I can monitor project cost

Requester (RQ), Sponsor (SP) Functional Manager(FM), Project Manager(PM), and other managers (PMA, PMO, PfM, PgM), can monitor project cost at CONTROL > Cost:

For each work package, as of the selected status date, these data can be read:

  • Qualitative traffic light on cost management.
  • Percent of budget spent.
  • Short explanation by the project manager.
  • Baseline Cost.
  • Planned Cost: Project manager’s best estimate of total cost for this work package.
  • BCWS (Planned Value): Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled for this work package up to status date.
  • BCWP (Earned Value): Budgeted Cost of Work Performed for this work package up to status date.
  • ACWP (EV): Actual Cost of Work Performed for this work package up to this status date.
  • EVM calculations for this work package.

Regarding the graphical representation, Requester (RQ), Sponsor (SP), Functional Manager(FM), Project Manager (PM), and other managers (PMA, PMO, PfM, PgM), can monitor the project cost performance visually, for the whole project (Work Package #0), as or each status date, at More… > COST:

  • The upper left table shows AT (Actual Time: net work days from the project baseline start to status date), BAC, PV, AC, EV, CPI, SPI(t), SV(t), CV, EAC, VAC.
  • The upper right chart represents cumulative values of PV, EV, AC with time.
  • Lower trend charts show CV and SV(t).

The lower left chart represents a point for every status date (AT). Horizontal coordinate is the CPI. The vertical coordinate is the SPI(t). We can distinguish 4 quadrants: lower left (over budget, behind schedule), upper right (under budget, ahead schedule), lower right (under budget, behind schedule) and upper left (over budget, ahead schedule).

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I monitor project cost in PMPeople?

You can monitor cost under CONTROL > Cost, where you’ll see qualitative traffic lights, cost percentages, and earned value metrics for each work package.

What earned value metrics are available in cost monitoring?

Metrics include BCWS (Planned Value), BCWP (Earned Value), ACWP (Actual Cost), as well as calculated values like CPI, SPI(t), CV, EAC, and VAC.

How is project cost performance visualized in PMPeople?

Charts show trends of PV, EV, and AC over time, along with performance quadrants using CPI and SPI(t) to help evaluate cost and schedule efficiency.
